January Music Notes

The month of January is nearly over and we have been very busy in the Music Rooms. We have divided the music room into two sections; one for singing and the other for using the white board and instruments. All grades are working on selections for the April All School Program; the vocal choirs and the handbell choir are preparing for the May Music Program. This month the fifth grade classes have worked on a Music History project which they shared with their class. I have posted some pictures of a few of the projects.

Creating Our Own Music

In second grade we spent a session on learning to make our own music.  Using different instruments, students created a short piece as a small ensemble.  Here are a couple of groups performing.

Drums and Recorders

The sounds of recorders, drums and singing voices have been filling the Music Room the past two weeks. All of the choirs have started and we have three amazing vocal and handbells choirs sharing music. 

This week third, fourth and fifth grades started the wonderful world of recorder playing.  Students will soon begin working on recorder belts. In order to achieve a belt students play a song at the belt level. This is an optional goal and not required.
There is so much music learning each week. We have our Good Morning songs, Everybody Do This, Little Hands and the list goes on and on. Fifth grade is having fun with I Am Slowly Going Crazy.

Making Musical Moments

What exciting things are happening each week in the Music Room!  The students have leaned many new songs including our Hello” song. They are also leaning a song which they will sing during offering in Chapel each week. Beginning next week we will start on recorders in our third through fifth grade classes; offering recorders to the third graders is new this year.  We have recorders for all third through fifth grade students, but students may choose to bring them from home also.  If your student has a recorder at home that they want to bring and leave at school please mark it so that it can be easily identified.

There is still time for students to sign up for both choirs and handbells!  We will also begin choir and handbells next week. The 4^th and 5^th grade choir meets on Tuesday and handbells rehearse on Friday.  The 1^st to 3^rd choir will begin on September 12^th.  The choirs meet from 3:15 to 3:45.

Welcome to Music

Dear Parents,
I am so excited to be teaching music this year at the Academy. We have a new room  but all the same musical instruments to share.
I have taught music for several years and am looking forward to meeting parents during the year.
Check the blog often for updates on what different things we will be doing each week.
Third grade will be learning recorders this year. I am also doing the choirs and handbells so hopefully students will want to join in order to add music to the worship services.
